What is self-care? Self-care is being able to care for yourself spiritually, mentally, physically, and emotionally.  When I began my self-care routine, I had to think about my reasons for starting this routine. I had never done a self-care routine before. Doing something for myself was something that I used to do. It is easy to forget about taking care of yourself. At the same time, it is important to remember taking care of yourself. I had a problem with taking care of myself.

While I felt like there was not enough time in the day to take care of me, I began to feel sick. I would feel exhausted, and I struggled to complete little tasks. As a wife and a mother just thought that everyone else should come before me.  Because I thought everyone else was more important than me.  Not to mention the fact that I didn’t want to seem like I was stingy. Or too into myself that I didn’t have time to think of anyone else. Whenever I thought about me, I would feel bad.

What I was failing to understand is that if I don’t take care so myself, I won’t be able to take care of no one else. Once I realized this, I began to want to take care of me. Taking care of me mentally, emotionally, physically, and spiritually would be a journey. Since I have started my self-care routine, I have been more focused, calmer, and less stressed. Here are some tips I’m using on my self-care routine. Remember, a self-care routine requires practice, so take it one step at a time. Remember, start your self-care routine small, and then you can add to it as needed.

Now, I have a problem with this one. I used to sleep well when I was a child, but as an adult, since I’ve noticed that I have a problem with sleeping, I found a solution. To help me go to sleep, I listen to I love it. And I wake up feeling refreshed. It is essential to get your proper rest. Not getting adequate rest can affect your health in several different ways.

According to, not getting enough sleep affects your memory and more. Now, if you do not get enough sleep at night, try to take a power nap. A power nap is a nap that you choose for ten to twenty minutes during the day. Trust me. A power nap can be very beneficial to you. It is essential to listen to your body. When it tells you to sleep, that is what you need to do.

Eating healthy

Eating healthy is vital because it has a significant impact on your well-being. Foods that you eat can control your mood. Also, it is crucial to have a healthy gut. The foods you eat impact the bacteria that live in your stomach. If your gut is happy, then so are you. Since I began my journey on the Keto diet, and I have noticed that I have more energy. The foods that we eat can either keep us healthy or make us gain weight. On the positive side, eating the right diet can help prevent inflammation and short-term memory loss. Listen to your body; only eat when you are hungry. And stop eating when you are full. Of course, this may seem like a struggle because sometimes it is hard to tell whether you are hungry or not. If I feel hungry, I drink a glass of lemon and water. Okay, so I don’t like to drink plain water. I must infuse it with some lemon juice. Sometimes I may infuse it with strawberries, cucumbers, and lemon, and this is a refreshing drink.

Exercise is one of my struggles point. In fact, it is essential to realize that exercise helps mentally and physically. Not to mention the fact that exercising helps you lose weight. Although exercising is one of my struggles point, I love it once I get started. It has so many benefits. For example, it reduces anxiety and stress. Also, it boosts your mood and builds your confidence once you have reached your goals.  Of course, it doesn’t matter what type of exercise program you choose. Make sure it is right for you. Check with your physician to make sure your exercise program is appropriate for you.

Me Time

Take a 20-minute walk, enjoy a relaxing bath, watch your favorite show, or go for a ride. Hey, use this time to do something for you. For example, reading a good book is the perfect escape from reality. I know because I love to read a good book and get lost in it.  But my favorite “me time” activity is my self spa treatment. There is just something about applying my face mask, doing my nails, and enjoying a nice relaxing bath.

However, I am not always able to do these activities every day. But I try to do at least one of these activities. My life is busy. And when I get really busy, I take 5 minutes to go in my room or bathroom for a small break. The reason why I do this is to take some deep breaths and reset myself. Especially if I’m feeling stressed. It is vital to schedule “ME TIME” this is for “YOU.” In other words, no matter what is going on in your life, take some time out for you.

Say No

Saying no. It is hard for me to do. I’m always trying to do everything for everyone. Saying no is especially tricky for me. I’m genuinely working on ] in my journey of self-care. Of course, it is always easy to tell someone “no” in your mind. But when it comes to doing it, I feel bad. I feel bad because I try to please everyone. As a result of trying to please everyone, I was stressing out. Stressing out was making me have health issues. Stress can cause headaches, diabetes, and make you age quicker Learning to say no is a process. It does not happen overnight. However, when I say, “no.” It’s like there is a weight lifted off my shoulders.

Praying and Meditation

Praying and meditation helps me start my day. I wake up, pray, and thank God for waking me up. It is a regular habit for me. And it sets my mood for the day. It lets me see the world in a new way. Meditation is about me paying attention to what’s happening now. It is also about paying attention to your emotions. If I’m having a bad day, praying and meditation gives me the strength to get through it. Of course, that means paying attention to what is around you, such as people, things, and places. Meditation and prayer can indeed help with your mood. One day you may find yourself in a situation that is making you angry. It is important to realize prayer and meditation can help you calm the anger that is inside of you.

Blast from the Past

For instance, take a minute. And think about what made you happy as a child. I know you may have to think for a minute. Go ahead! Maybe you loved to draw or sing as a child. What made you feel carefree? Because, as we adapt to adulthood, we forget about the little things that we enjoyed. Take some time and go back to what made you happy as a child. If you wanted to be an artist, get out that artbook and draw your heart out. If your hobby was singing, then sing.

Whatever your hobby was, reflect on it. And enjoy it just as much as you did as a child. I love singing, drawing, and writing. Once I start doing either one of these activities, I feel at ease. Of course, taking your mind off of being an adult and enjoying a stress-free event is relaxing. As well as being beneficial to your health.
